UPDATE: latest developments in Adam Plummer’s training method- 2011 SUMMER GOAL: to bring the young athletes of Vancouver an unprecedented level of technical coaching using a combination of camera technology and direct feedback. Athletes committing to our summer programs will be among the first to have their athletic skills “analyzed-critiqued-solved” by an expert like Adam. Adam spent the winter training down in Arizona with the world’s most respected sports training facility, Athletes’ Performance Institute(API). This company is responsible for training the German National Soccer team, the US National Soccer Team, the LA Galaxy, and countless NFL and MLB players. During Adam’s time down there he had the opportunity to work side by side with some of the world’s most explosive professional athletes. Specifically football players preparing for the NFL combine. Adam also had the chance to do a lot of work with professional MLS soccer players getting ready for their seasons. Adam is now going to fuse the training he learned working with the pros to deliver the most technologically advanced speed programs ever offered to the young athletes of British Columbia. These new programs will be complete with in depth video analysis, brand new cutting edge equipment, and Adam’s willingness to do that extra little bit to make the difference in the athletic careers of each and every athlete who shows up to train. In order to constantly push the limits of what the human body is capable of, Adam will continue to take these long coaching trips to gain the knowledge that will allow his program to progress. There is so much knowledge out there, it is just a matter of sifting through all the BS to find the wisdom. It is a lot of work but Adam greatly enjoys this process because in the end, the athletes that come to him are going to benefit. Academic Specialization: Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention. For those of you who are interested in the science behind all this training here is a quick overview- During my studies I chose to look at the different musculoskeletal changes that occur when an athlete focuses on power training vs. endurance training. There is overwhelming evidence to show that excessive endurance training results in a loss of muscle power(especially in young developing athletes). With repeated long distance endurance activities, the athlete is able to sustain a low power output for a long period of time (i.e. run a long distance at a moderate speed) but struggles to make quick bursts of speed, which are often the deciding factor for making big plays in big games. On the other hand, power training and or speed training in athletes seems to have a reverse effect on endurance in that an athlete who is powerful will often develop better endurance capacity because they now require less effort to move due to their newly enhanced power: body weight ratio. The bottom line is that power training increases relative body strength which in turn makes movement easier and thus simultaneously improves speed and endurance. This is the ideal for almost all team sports and any other activity that requires quickness combined with endurance. Doing long distance endurance training only will result in an athlete who lacks burst capability but can move at a medium speed for a long time. This training effect is more suited to middle-long distance running events.
If a young athlete wants to become explosive it is quite simple- THEY NEED TO TRAIN EXPLOSIVELY! ________________
2011 SOCCER SPECIFIC SPEED DEVELOPMENT CAMPS (1 week)
Note: This is a 5 day camp that runs Monday to Friday throughout the summer This camp will incorporate all of the skills, speed drills, and finishing techniques Adam used with the highly successful UBC Soccer team who won the CIS national title in 2005 & 2007. In addition to being the strength & conditioning coach for UBC Soccer( 2004-2010), Adam has done extensive work with them focusing on the biomechanical aspects of shooting, volleying, heading, and finishing. This cutting edge camp will focus on the development of game speed with and without the soccer ball. The sessions will be split into speed work on and off the ball with an emphasis on precision shooting and goal scoring situations.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
HERE ARE JUST A FEW EXAMPLES OF THE TECHNIQUE WORK YOU WILL DO AT OUR SESSIONS:
• Learn to make explosive directional changes that are specific to the game of soccer • Increase your vertical jump so you can win those aerial battles • Develop the optimal sprinting technique for running with and without the ball • Develop postural strength to better hold the ball in shielding situations • Learn drills to develop the hamstring flexibility required to hit the ball out of the air • Learn how to “snap” through the ball when taking shots at full speed • Learn how to coil up and explode through the ball with your headers • Learn how to use your opponents strength against them during 50/50 battles • Learn how to set your feet for explosive acceleration into space • Learn when to float and when to attack the ball in crossing situations • Learn top class power volleying & ½ volleying technique * Chance to win T-shirts, new balls, and other prizes
NEW BENEFITS TO THE PROGRAM THIS YEAR: 1) NEW THIS YEAR: Individualized mechanical analysis of each and every athlete. You will have your shooting/sprinting technique video taped in super slow motion-analyzed- then sent to you via email. Always on the cutting edge Speed Science will be using modern technology to enhance your learning experience. Last year we sent you video of your technique, this year we are adding mechanical analysis using the most advance software system available. This is an extremely complicated process to implement into the program but Adam has found a way to do it quickly and efficiently. This level of technical coaching is unprecedented in Canadian Soccer. Sign up today if you want to be one of the first athletes to have their athletic skills analyzed-critiqued-solved by an expert like Adam.
2) Each and every athlete completing our Soccer Specific Speed Training Camp will receive a training manual outlining the techniques covered in the course. This manual will keep your child busy when out in the yard practicing. This extra training will also be a great chance for parent and child to play together at the park. Speed Science feels that training in this way provides the highest return in that the child is able to get in many repetitions, which is fundamental to athletic development, and also to bring the parent back into the equation. Professional coaching has become a big thing in Canada these days but fails to provide the creative freedom that parent-child practice time can deliver. The training manual provided will give the parent detailed direction in how to go about “playing” with their child while simultaneously developing skilful technique in speed training and shooting/heading technique. 3) NEW THIS YEAR: education on performance nutrition and how to optimally recover from tough training sessions. Materials will be provided so the athletes can take the information home and have it on file all year round. Nutrition is an extremely complicated science and thus the aim of this part of the program will be to teach nutritional strategies that are simple and sustainable from adolescence through to adulthood.

GET FAST - GET STRONG - GET TOUGH
If you and your child are serious about maxing out your athletic ability come on out and discover the speed training secrets of the world’s top coaches and athletes. Throughout our programs your child will receive detailed technical analysis on his/her movement and in the process will be exposed to a wealth of coaching insight. MOTIVATED ATHLETES ENTERING OUR PROGRAM ARE GUARANTEED TO BECOME:
- Fitter
- Faster
- Stronger
- Quicker
- More Agile
- More Flexible
- More resistant to injury
- More knowledgeable about sports nutrition and recovery
- A better, tougher, more complete athlete
Is your kid weary of being dominated by bigger, faster, stronger athletes? Do you cringe while watching your son or daughter trying to keep up with the other kids? Do you wonder how good you could have been had you received top class coaching as a child and now want that for your child? Do you worry your child is not getting enough individual attention when it comes to their fundamental athletic development? The Speed Science program offers the aspiring athlete the type of individualized attention and instruction generally reserved for university or professional athletes. The program is based on the premise that the best athletes on a team are almost always the fastest athletes and thus all athletes should be spending more time working on this aspect of their performance. Adam knows you already believe this or you would not be reading this information.
Speed Science is bringing to Sport Canada what the top countries have known for decades and that is that speed is a skill and speed can be taught by highly qualified coaches. Research and work with young athletes has proven that a structured, progressive training strategy can significantly improve speed, quickness and agility. Despite the Canadian coaching myth that fast athletes are born not made, speed can be improved in any athlete at any point in their career even if they are naturally fast. If your child is serious about elevating their game by becoming a more explosive athlete then reserve your spot today!
For those kids who are dedicated and motivated to become better athletes, I invite you to once again come out and train with us. The 8-10 week summer program is our top program but is also very intense and thus not for everybody. Over the years we have found that young athletes are capable of a tremendous amount of work/effort if the training is progressed in a systematic way by an experienced coach. It is also an extremely valuable thing for kids to learn that it is ok to push themselves and that they actually feel amazingly good after a demanding workout.
ADAM AND THE SPEED SCIENCE STAFF WILL BE AT YOUR SIDE, GUIDING YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY TO MEET YOUR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.
Note: the summer Speed School program(8-10 weeks) allows for 2 weeks vacation time. It runs 2 sessions per week through the summer and thus pushes athletes to make phenomenal gains going into the Fall season. The school also provides a physical outlet for the extra energy kids have now that most team sports have taken a break. This is especially true for soccer players who are trying to play 10 months of the year (in some cases all 12 months) as these athletes are high risk for overtraining/chronic injuries related to soccer specific movements. In an ideal world, young athletes would balance out their athleticism by performing safe strength/speed training in the offseason to refresh and recharge their bodies.
The Speed Science Program is open to: Any focused athlete with the desire to learn how their body works and then take it to its genetic potential. In all of our programs we like to create an atmosphere of intensity and achievement and for that reason uncommitted athletes will have a tough time keeping up with us.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
You will develop the same skills and techniques that elite university and professional athletes use to dominate their opponents. Here are just a few examples of the technique work we will be doing at the sessions: • learn efficient running technique like that of a professional soccer player • how to make explosive directional changes like an NFL wide receiver • how to jump like an NBA point guard • how to sprint like an Olympic 100m track star • learn what it means to eat for performance • learn why most workouts fail to develop athleticism and how to identify a knowledgeable coach • learn the 3 keys to making coaches remember you during tryouts • learn why most fitness programs make you soft and slow • learn how to cut your recovery time in half after a workout • learn how to develop and maintain elite level flexibility for a lifetime • learn how to manage injuries from the moment they occur all the way to long-term prevention strategies NEW BENEFITS TO THE PROGRAM THIS YEAR: 1) NEW THIS YEAR: Individualized mechanical analysis of each and every athlete. You will have your sprinting-jumping-cutting technique video taped in super slow motion-analyzed- then sent to you via email. Always on the cutting edge Speed Science will be using modern technology to enhance your learning experience. Last year we sent you video of your technique, this year we are adding mechanical analysis using the most advance software system available. This is an extremely complicated process to implement into the program but Adam has now found a way to do it quickly and efficiently. This level of technical coaching is unprecedented in Canadian Youth Sport. Sign up today if you want to be one of the first athletes to have their athletic skills analysed-critiqued-solved by an expert like Adam.
2) Each and every athlete completing our Summer Speed School will receive a personalized performance evaluation that will address the following: flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, speed, power, and strength. In addition all athletes will receive a training manual outlining the techniques covered in the course. The manual will show your child how to continue and maintain their strength, speed, and fitness right through the fall/winter- provided they follow the prescribed exercises. The manual has been created with the knowledge that most athletes have very little time to spare during the school year and so every effort has been made to make the in-season program manageable. We hate to see athletes work so hard during the summer, only to lose it all in the Fall due to a lack of this kind of training in school or with their teams. This is something parents and athletes have been requesting for years so here it is!
------------ SUMMER SPEED SCHOOL REGISTRATION DETAILS

SUCCESS STORES UNDER THE SPEED SCIENCE METHOD: Graham Smith - 2 time CIS All-Canadian, MVP- 2007 CIS National Championships (UBC) “The most amazing part of training with Adam is how you are able to keep on progressing no matter what stage you are at with your program. I have achieved my greatest successes in soccer since training with Adam. This training has changed me as a player; it has made me more explosive and much quicker on the field.” Mike Mosher - Head Coach UBC Thunderbirds Men’s Soccer “Our men’s varsity program has benefited tremendously from Adam’s knowledge and experience in physical training and his passion and desire for developing high performance athletes. Further proof is that our program has already seen massive improvements with the type of training implemented by Adam in that we have captured the Men’s soccer CIS National Championship in both 2005 & 2007.” Brandon Bonifacio - U-20 Canadian National Team & Cambuur - Leeuwarden Pro Team “As not one of the taller athletes I had to rely on explosiveness and quickness to get to higher levels in soccer. After just a couple weeks with Adam my body felt the strongest it has ever been. Adam’s methods have helped me in the prevention of injuries, which is key for any athlete. It has helped me over the last 6 months reach new levels as a soccer player and I owe a lot of my success to the work of Adam.” Eddie Chalk - Paris St.-Germain U-15 Team “Adam’s program really helped me improve my soccer speed skills. The training sessions helped develop not only my leg muscles, but also my core and upper body strength. I found this very helpful in winning tackles and avoid being pushed off the ball by bigger kids. Also, the drills that worked on explosive moves helped me a lot in getting to the ball first. I now play with the former club of 2 time-World Player of the Year-Ronaldinho Gaucho, Paris St. Germain (PSG) U15 team in France and Adam helped me get here.” ________________
