2010 SPRING PROGRAM UPDATE 03/20/2010
SPEED SCIENCE & UBC SPORT CAMPS ARE EXCITED TO OFFER A 10 WEEK SPRING SPEED- AGILITY- QUICKNESS PROGRAM WITH EXPERT SPEED & POWER COACH- ADAM PLUMMER, Msc
ADAM IS HEAD SPEED-STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH FOR THE 2005 & 2007 CIS NATIONAL CHAMPION UBC MENS SOCCER PROGRAM AND FOUNDER OF SPEED SCIENCE - POWER DEVELOPMENT
Masters of Science Degree: Human Biomechanics and Physiology
Specialization: Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention- Adam studied the different musculoskeletal changes that occur when an athlete focuses on power training vs. endurance training. There is overwhelming evidence to show that excessive endurance training results in a loss of muscle power. The athlete is able to sustain a low power output for a long period of time but struggles to make quick bursts of speed, which are often the deciding factor for making big plays in big games. On the other hand, power training in athletes seems to have a reverse effect on endurance in that an athlete who is powerful will often develop better endurance capacity because they now require less effort to move due to their enhanced power: body weight ratio.
The bottom line is that power training increases relative body strength which in turn makes movement easier and thus simultaneously improves speed and endurance. This is the ideal for almost all team sports and any other activity that requires quickness combined with endurance. Doing long distance endurance training only will result in an athlete who lacks burst capability but can move at a medium speed for a long time. This training effect is more suited to middle-long distance running events.
IF YOU AND YOUR CHILD ARE SERIOUS ABOUT MAXING OUT YOUR ATHLETIC ABILITY COME ON OUT AND DISCOVER THE SPEED TRAINING SECRETS OF THE WORLDS FASTEST ATHLETES!
Is your kid weary of being dominated by bigger, faster, stronger athletes? Do you cringe while watching your son or daughter trying to keep up with the other kids? Do you wonder how good you could have been had you received top class coaching as a child and now want that for your child? Do you worry your child is not getting enough individual attention when it comes to their fundamental athletic development?
The Speed Science program offers the aspiring athlete the type of individualized attention and instruction generally reserved for university or professional athletes. The program is based on the premise that the best athletes on a team are almost always the fastest athletes and thus all athletes should be spending more time working on this aspect of their performance. Adam knows you already believe this or you would not be reading this information.
THE SPEED SCIENCE PROGRAM IS OPEN TO:
Any focused athlete with the desire to learn how their body works and then take it to its genetic potential. In all of our programs we like to create an atmosphere of intensity and achievement and for that reason uncommitted athletes will have a tough time keeping up with us.
You will learn long to term strategies on how to develop the same skills and techniques that elite university and professional athletes use to dominate their opponents.
Here are just a few examples of the technique work we will be doing at the sessions:
how to make explosive directional changes like an NFL wide receiver
how to jump like an NBA point guard
how to sprint like an Olympic 100m track star
learn efficient running technique like that of a professional soccer player
learn what it means to eat for performance
learn why most workouts fail to develop athleticism and how to identify a knowledgeable coach
learn the 3 keys to making coaches remember you during tryouts
learn why most fitness programs make you soft and slow
learn how to cut your recovery time in half after a workout
learn how to develop and maintain elite level flexibility for a lifetime
learn how to manage injuries from the moment they occur all the way to long-term prevention strategies

SUCCESS STORES UNDER THE SPEED SCIENCE METHOD:
Graham Smith - 2 time CIS All-Canadian, MVP- 2007 CIS National Championships (UBC) "The most amazing part of training with Adam is how you are able to keep on progressing no matter what stage you are at with your program. I have achieved my greatest successes in soccer since training with Adam. This training has changed me as a player; it has made me more explosive and much quicker on the field."
Mike Mosher - Head Coach UBC Thunderbirds Mens Soccer "Our mens varsity program has benefited tremendously from Adams knowledge and experience in physical training and his passion and desire for developing high performance athletes. Further proof is that our program has already seen massive improvements with the type of training implemented by Adam in that we have captured the Mens soccer CIS National Championship in both 2005 & 2007."
Brandon Bonifacio - U-20 Canadian National Team & Cambuur - Leeuwarden Pro Team "As not one of the taller athletes I had to rely on explosiveness and quickness to get to higher levels in soccer. After just a couple weeks with Adam my body felt the strongest it has ever been. Adams methods have helped me in the prevention of injuries, which is key for any athlete. It has helped me over the last 6 months reach new levels as a soccer player and I owe a lot of my success to the work of Adam."
Eddie Chalk - Paris St.-Germain U-15 Team "Adams program really helped me improve my soccer speed skills. The training sessions helped develop not only my leg muscles, but also my core and upper body strength. I found this very helpful in winning tackles and avoid being pushed off the ball by bigger kids. Also, the drills that worked on explosive moves helped me a lot in getting to the ball first. I now play with the former club of 2 time-World Player of the Year-Ronaldinho Gaucho, Paris St. Germain (PSG) U15 team in France and Adam helped me get here."

WHY SHOULD YOUNG ATHLETES TRAIN THESE PARTS OF THEIR GAME?.....EXPLOSIVENESS!
Explosiveness is the trait that all coaches want and all young Canadian athletes should be striving for as the future of team sports is SPEED, SPEED, and more SPEED. This is evidenced by the increases in velocity and power demonstrated by modern university and professional athletes. Your child may never become a professional athlete but the need for more and more athleticism has trickled down to youth sports and has thus become an integral part of the youth development model. In order to compete effectively in the years to come young athletes will need to devote a significant amount of time to developing this ability. In addition to the practical reasons, the ability to move and compete at high speeds is just down right fun!
During the 10-week program your child will receive detailed technical analysis on his/her movement and in the process will be exposed to a wealth of coaching insight on how to become:
· Faster
· Quicker
· Stronger
· More agile
· More flexible
· More resistant to injury
· A better more complete athlete
